SPYGLASS & COMPASS (2024)

A physical spyglass & compass for my West Marches TTRPG.

Synopsis:
One player looks through the spyglass and reports what interesting things they see on the horizon. Another uses the compass to report which direction the various sights are in. The other players use this information to draw out their map.

Description:
Two Android smart watches are used as displays and controls for the physical constructions. The world view watch is housed inside the lens cap of an antique spyglass. The compass watch is housed inside a 3D printed body. These communicate via a central web server.

I used surface and post process shaders to unify the art style and achieve a hand drawn style. This way I could model the explorable space in 3D, then drop the players at any point in it while they travel to show what they can see!
