I just found out about the s&box Gam Jam II! It’s currently about half way through its run time, and it accepts entries developed previously, but I think I’ll have a go at learning the engine and see what I can make anyway. The prizes run from 1st = £20k to 5th = £2k. I think I may still have a chance at fifth, if I can realise the idea fully. I’m really proud of the concept though! (Cormack from the future - I won fifth!!!)

My idea is a multiplayer old school dungeon crawler, inspired by watching Alex Diener’s Let’s Plays of Legend of Grimrock, especially Final Adventure. All players share a body (& so move as one) but each can turn to any of the NEWS cardinal directions and act independently. To lean into this I’ll make the interactions really physicsy and goofy. I also played Cryptmaster recently, so I’d love to get some charismatic VO in as well!

Today I was mostly getting to grips with s&box as an engine (pretty easy coming from Unity!), but I managed to make basic grid movement and a custom cursor which can drag around physics objects. Basic multiplayer is also implemented, since it’s super simple in s&box! I also love that they support physics collision sounds out of the box, really reminds me of my Garry’s Mod days.
